How To Recover “explorer.exe” ?

The tutorial/trick we are going to share is very helpful to very users. If you are changing start orb (Start Button) using a tool or manually and after restarting/logging off PC or explorer.exe you are only seeing desktop background, what will you do? You don’t have to worry. Just read this tutorial.

1. You are seeing similar to this (Maybe your background is different):

2. Now open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc

3.  Now click New Task button in Bottom-Right corner. It will open Run

4. Now select “Browse” and navigate to “%systemdrive%\Windows”. If there is a backup of explorer.exe, select it and click “Open” and then “OK” from run window. If there is no explorer.exe’s backup, download Windows Explorer file using link given below:

Note that you will have to extract the files in it first and to paste only explorer.exe file in ““%systemdrive%\Windows\”.


5. You are done! Your windows will now load all other components!

  1. Hi this is very useful, I have exactly the same problem but I have windows XP home, so could you upload the explorer.exe file for Windows XP home sp3 as well please. Also please tell me which folder in win xP the explorer exe is and need to be inserted into.

      You can search for explorer.exe file for WinXP SP3 in Google. The procedure and path is same :)

  5. I have two operating system in my laptop,Windows vista & windows 7. But I have suddenly failed to access Windows 7. After login in windows 7 the screen is turned down into black. Only cursor has seen.After pressing alt+cltrl+del the page has come.But after clicking task manager the screen again turned down into black, so i can't see what process is going on.The problem is arrived in save mode as well.Please give me solution of this problem .

    1. In that case, you may try this solution:
      1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP, IF COMPUTER SKIP IT
      2) REMOVE THE BATTERY
      3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES
      4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN
      5) START IT UP..

    1. No, windows 7 start button changer makes a backup of explorer.exe in C:\Windows\ location. It does not remove the explorer.exe.

  7. i get problem with explorer.exe in Win 8.1 preview
    i've been google it and found nothing.
    i really want to feel Win 8.1 experience
    should i use explorer.exe from previous windows?

    1. You must not copy explorer.exe from previous windows. It would make your computer unstable. Can you please explain the problem?
