Android 4.4 To Be Named “KitKat”, Not “Key Lime Pie”

Google’s SVP Sundar Pichai announced that the next version of Android will be Android 4.4 and will be called “KitKat“. He has shared this news on Twitter as well as Google+. There was a news that the new version will be Android 5.0 and will be called “Key Lime Pie“. But as Key Lime Pie is not common, Google might have changed the name. There is currently no information about the new features or improvements. But Google has updated its website which shows the history of Android from Android 1.5 CupCake to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat and features some of the major features introduced in each new Android release.

The reason behind naming each and every android release on the name of some sweet, as given by Google, is the sweetness made in your life by the Android smartphones. Android 4.4 KitKat is named after the Nestle’s popular chocolate. Here’s a list of all android versions with their names:
  • Android 1.5: Cupcake
  • Android 1.6: Donut
  • Android 2.0: Eclair
  • Android 2.1, 2.2: Froyo
  • Android 2.3: Gingerbread
  • Android 3.0: Honeycomb

  • Android 4.1: Jelly Bean
