Today, while searching for a file using “Start” of Windows 10, I came across an awkward error. Windows refused to search my file name. Then I tried another search. Still the same result. Then I searched for “update” and clicked “My stuff”. Then I got an error as “Something went wrong”. I was very disappointed as I couldn’t do a basic task.
My first attempt to solve this problem was to restart my PC. But unfortunately, It didn’t work. Then I tried the basics of troubleshooting i.e. Troubleshooter. Windows provides a way to troubleshoot search related problems. I tried this troubleshooter and it worked hopefully 😀
If you’re experiencing search or indexing or Cortana related problems, you can try the following steps:
1. Open Control Panel. The easiest way to do so is to open Runusing Win+R key combination. Put “Control Panel” and click OK.
2. Click Troubleshooting and then in the sidebar click View All.
3. This will load a list of Troubleshooters. Now click “Search and Indexing”.
4. Click Next and then check “Files don’t appear in search results.” and click Next again.
5. That’s it! In my case, Windows solved two problems. First one was some Windows Search files were corrupted. Second one was Windows Search service couldn’t be started.
